"If a community, or a section, or a race, or an age, is groaning under industrialism, and well aware that it is an evil dispensation, it must find a way to throw it off. To think that this cannot be done is pusillanimous. And if the whole community, section, race, or age thinks it cannot be done, then... it has doomed itself to impotence." —Twelve Southerners

The Birthday Present

Marlene and I have been blessed with three sons. Our firstborn turned 18 years old this month. His name is the same as mine. He is the third generation Herrick Kimball. But he goes by the name, Chaz, which is a variation of his middle name, Charles. He is a good kid and that is due mostly to God's grace and his mother's influence.

So I was faced with the matter of getting a birthday present for my son. We keep present giving very simple for birthdays and Christmas but being 18 years old called for a really special gift. What could be more special than a gun?

I've written about giving my sons 20-gauge shotguns for gifts. And I've mentioned here before that I don't think a man can have too many guns. So that's what I did. I bought my son a gun. But it wasn't just any gun. This was a special gun. It is a gun that the whole family has been using and enjoying. Friends who have stopped by have shot the gun and really liked it too.

Even Marlene has been shooting this gun. Fact is, she stood five feet away from me, called to get my attention and, when I looked up, she fired it directly at my head. She did not hit me because the range of the gun is only about three feet feet. But I flinched and she laughed. Well, that was a big mistake on Marlene's part! ;-)

Click here to see this gun. It's a well-made and functional gun that makes for a memorable and greatly appreciated gift. it's also cheap, which is nice too. I actually bought mine from Lehman's hardware.

On another note, I've added new agrarian blogger links over on the right side of this page. And I have a new category for Junior Agrarian Bloggers

Okay, you had me really worried. I thought for sure Marlene needed some hunter safety tips. Or, I thought you really made her angry. Very funny post. All of my troops would love this little dandy for sure.

Happy Birthday Chaz!!!

I neglected to point out that it has a 3ft firing range because there is a string that long that connects the swatter end to the gun.

My guys all got these for Christmas to kill mosquitoes down here in Florida where mosquitoes are a problem most of the year and should be called helicopters not mosquitoes!

My boys would love your son's new gun! My brother knew our older 2 sons had guns so he decided to give our 2 younger sons marshmallow guns; they are quite a hit as well!

PS -- Thanks for linking my sons' blogs to your Junior Agrarian Bloggers site. They will be thrilled when they notice it!

Lynn,

Your boys are good bloggers.

I believe that blogging about their daily life as Christian-agraian children can be (in fact, is) a powerful ministry to adults and other children. Just being themselves and having fun, as they are doing, is a very effective witness.

I hope more Junior Christian Agrarians will start blogging. I can see the educational value of it too!

This is great, Herrick! Our son#2, Isaac, just turned 18 this month, too. He would absolutely love this....especially if it works on spiders. Our new (old) house is just crawling with big fat juicey black tarantulas. Well, okay, not exactly but you should hear the screams of "MOOOMMMM!" whenever he spots one. Thanks for the link!

My daughter is off her computer quarantine starting tomorrow...she should be posting more often!
