Yeah, for hamburgers and steak! for NO smog, no fowl odors, no chaotic driving! China is very green, everywhere, and landscaped and beautiful, both city and country. It's great to get your report. And I can imagine how nice it will be to get back home.Herrick Kimballhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17116051416696885647noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13729569.post-49600924954210313932016-05-04T19:50:40.162-04:002016-05-04T19:50:40.162-04:00Elizabeth L. Some impressions from C...Elizabeth L. Johnson said,
Some impressions from China where I am presently: the old folks look you dead in the eye and scowl, whereas there are many, many more young folks, and they are demure, very kind, outgoing, generous, and unafraid. My impressions as I've been out and about: the many police vehicles that sit at many street corners with lights on, all day are pretty and showy...trying to intimidate by their presence, but to no avail it seems; in the huge cities, the large presence of military individuals at official government buildings, gov. museums, and other attractions: the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, etc. are all show and absolutely no force. I've seen no weaponry here whatsoever, just alot of standing at attention among the tens of thousands of folks walking to these attractions and to downtown shopping. It's very westernized here near and in cities. The wealthy have nice Hyundais while the other 99% travel by public transportation, also bicycle, lorry, and scooter, lots and lots of scooters, and lots of walking, lots and lots! The malls are monstrous and extremely flamboyant, but have few customers. Talked with two Christian gentlemen last night. They have plenty of freedom as long as they don't do anything openly, or advertise. Word of mouth is fine, and no obvious Christian signs or appearance is how the government prefers, but it depends on local government per province. My family stands out like a sore thumb, but nobody cares, and are so friendly. I'd say that most all families are agrarian, esp. outside the cities in vast country-sides. I see thousands upon thousands of gardens, as I traveled by train. I don't see any cattle raising, but know of pork and chicken raising. Will be home soon. Now I am much more grateful for my country and my house.Levi Mathias Johnsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05150827284682659077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13729569.post-77883901115660825902016-04-29T20:38:25.319-04:002016-04-29T20:38:25.319-04:00'The Millionaire Next Door' should be requ...'The Millionaire Next Door' should be required reading for young people, or anyone concerned with their own finances. There are some hard but absolutely vital truths in that book.

As an aside, I was listening to the radio this past week and they were talking about Puerto Rico's impending bond default. It occurred to me that our government and most others have been gripped by a kind of insanity that says, not only can you spend more than you bring in, but that it is also right, moral, and expected to do so. They in turn have sold the idea to us through the mainstream media, their various propaganda outlets, and by their example. The largest sectors of the economy are based on usury, and we are bombarded daily with ads to take on more and more high interest debt. It is absolutely insane. The Scriptures talk about God sending strong delusions on people to believe what is false, because they have refused to acknowledge the truth and have fallen under judgement. Lord have mercy, and may He grant His children the wisdom and courage to defy this age and do whats right. Your blog is one of my 'regulars' to go to for new considerations affirming what i believe both as a Christian and as a patriotic American.

regarding the middle-class shame, it gets to the heart of what i see in so many friends and the community. with employment struggles, financial stress, etc. it is puzzling how it can 'distract' us from looking to the Lord for help and direction, when we need it most. the loss of hope because of financial stress is very sad. never loose hope, never let things get 'above' us to where we lose hope, because the Savior already overcame the world, and we can too. this is what i want my kids to hear from me, regularly.

thanks again! enjoy your busy-ness. i look forward to your return ;-)
wildbillbNWpodcasthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02698099900285337780noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13729569.post-86709525661224300062016-04-29T06:07:05.592-04:002016-04-29T06:07:05.592-04:00Elizabeth—

Our son will pick me up after a 12 hr flight from San Fran. We'll sight-see in Beijing, then my husband will join us later out of N.K., and take high-speed (200 mph)train to the university down south where our son is a professor. Reading your blog at bedtime is my reward after a hard day of work. I sure appreciate it. I tell alot of people about it, for its helpfulness. Thanks for all your writing. Elizabeth L.
