I'm looking forward to learning more from your old magazines, I can'e believe what libraries throw out, but if you're in the right place at the right time you can pick up some great books!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12874273438983052621noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13729569.post-74991107701529975012011-05-07T12:09:31.194-04:002011-05-07T12:09:31.194-04:00The Depression was something my grandparents went ...The Depression was something my grandparents went through and carried forever after. My grandmother was given up to the state, I suppose to make the family life easier. My grandfather went to school to be an engineer. In my entire life, I never saw them waste money on knicknacks, tape players, etc. At least not for themselves...at Christmas every year, they spoiled all of us grandchildren rotten.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13729569.post-58744057497677966062011-05-05T19:21:54.053-04:002011-05-05T19:21:54.053-04:00I always look forward to your monthly post, but co...I always look forward to your monthly post, but completely understand the need to focus on the needs of an agrarian lifestyle. I live very close to the first of those communities in WV and it still largely resembles the original layout. The idea was and still is valid but the implementation could have been done better. Unfortunately, these communities were sucked into the post-WWII industrial frenzy that swept the country.vdealhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13980949311520793303noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13729569.post-27944376267685706612011-05-01T22:46:39.046-04:002011-05-01T22:46:39.046-04:00I enjoy reading your writings and look forward to ...I enjoy reading your writings and look forward to insightful installments on found wisdom in the Country Gentleman. I often think of my parents, especially my dad who grew up in the depression and his stories. Not what they did without but what they made-do with! Surviving such life is the ageless half-full or half-empty question. Most remarkable when I hear the depression stories of people who were obscenely poor by present standards is when they talk about helping those who were "worse off" than they. The two most important lessons I learned from my parents are tollerance and charity. Not donations and such but personal Chriastian charity - giving of one's self. Could I be content? ...yeah, I think I could.
