Very interesting. I like the contrarian stances he periodically takes in regards to the Organic Movement. I'm going to stick with applying COF tho - seems to work well. Today I took it up in our field where I'm digging holes to plant apple trees and I was thinking that with some pvc hoops and a tarp I could turn it into a Conestoga wagon to take my grandson camping (when he gets a little older).

The new tires were quite an expense but there is a cheaper way to get new tires, or so I was told after I bought them. A farm mechanic I know told me that he had some old rims with still-good tires from another wagon that he would have sold me for $50 each. He said the New Idea rims on my spreader would simply unbolt and the other rims would bolt on. It never occurred to me than another kind of rim, with a different (and more common) tire size, would work.

So that's a possibility. We have one like that - any smart ideas for what to do with the tires? They're pretty old, and maybe cracked. New inner tubes? New tires would blow the budget. I apply COF every spring and it seems to do wonders for my garden. I say "it seems" because I have no gardening history prior to 3 years ago. His plant spacing also seem to work well. We very rarely need to water. What a wonderful thing to find the voice of your Grandma so many years after her death. What a treasure. Well, thanks again - Muns
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13729569.post-51193698154219701522013-04-03T22:13:17.657-04:002013-04-03T22:13:17.657-04:00Thank you very much for pointing me to the Steve S...Thank you very much for pointing me to the Steve Solomon interview. That was a real mind bender for me. I would consider this one of your more useful posts. I was heading down that organic gardening path and was recently considering subscribing to Organic Gardening Magazine. I think I will save my money.

I ran into another interesting concept a couple of days ago that you may find interesting. The wife and I recently bought a 10 acre farm site and you know how all those old farm houses have such steep stairs up to the upstairs? Check this out!

http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/article/0,,443801,00.html

I wouldn't deliberately design a house using the alternating stairs concept, but it is a concept that would allow one to salvage an old farmhouse and make it safer to live in. (Maybe one would put the guest bedroom on the main floor so if one is ever on crutches they wouldn't have to do these stairs.) The wife stumbled across this concept while looking for handrail ideas for our steep stairs problem, and I initially thought, "That's dangerous!...but you know, that's safer than what we currently have."

Again, Thanks for an interesting post this month.

Ron CRonCnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13729569.post-11104468886364644652013-04-01T13:39:30.648-04:002013-04-01T13:39:30.648-04:00Herrick, I was finally able to hear the link to yo...Herrick, I was finally able to hear the link to your grandmother reading the letter.
