My grandmother took in her first cousin's children after she passed away from cancer. Thus, second cousins were like sisters as teenagers.Alisonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06930063125203710694noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13729569.post-31941316947185010402009-04-27T08:14:00.000-04:002009-04-27T08:14:00.000-04:00My g. Oklahoma was still a frontier state, basically at the time. His family lived in a dugout, for a while, before they built a cabin. I once joked with my wife, who on the day before we got married, made me drive across town to remove a wood boring bee from her house! I mentioned that my great grandmother homesteaded, my grandmother killed rattlesnakes with a rifle, and my mother drove a tractor between fields as a girl,I said, they just don't make women, like they used too. My wife didn't think that was funny.... she learning to get her fingers dirty, though! It has inspired me to research my own family tree. Something I have been meaning to do for quite some time.

We did find that my great, great, great, great (I think I need four greats to put him in the Civil War) Grandfather was a confederate POW in Cape Lookout, Maryland. He lived through it and came back to N.C. (where I am from) married, had children etc.

Thanks again for the great post.

In the Lamb, BobbyBobby https://www.blogger.com/profile/11434352041731951252noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13729569.post-90749526328334304742009-02-10T09:54:00.000-05:002009-02-10T09:54:00.000-05:00What a wonderful story, it makes me want to learn ...What a wonderful story, it makes me want to learn more about my own family history. I also had relatives from Canada but only know of them through a few pictures.

We have enjoyed reading your blog and appreciate your agrarian thoughts and ideals.

MikeMr. H.https://www.blogger.com/profile/04576034751522467377noreply@blogger.com
