First Deer

Fourteen years old.
First year hunting.
7:00 am.
100+ yard shot.
Open sights.
Remington 870 (dad’s gun).
Smooth bore.
20 Gauge.
5/8 oz lead slug.
One shot.
Dropped it in it’s tracks.

He's happy.
I'm amazed.

And we have yet another definition of "the good life."

YAY!!! Good for you youngster! I still remember my first. It was with a bow at 2 yards and was a little button-buck that field-dressed 46 lbs. It wasn't nearly as good as yours for sure!! Congrats.

Congratulations on a nice first buck! And congratulations to the proud parents for raising such a fine young man, and family from what I read, in a tradition lost in today's society. One day the "lost arts" or, providing for oneself, will prove most beneficial, even if not for yourself as you surely realize them, then for someone you may find in your care. Peace and blessings, let me know if you need a good sausage or jerky recipe!
